Architectural installations in un-used environments.
2009 Cube Open Exhibition
A on-going project involving the production of site specific structures using appropriated materials wherever possible. Inspired by past work relating to environmental architecture in un-inhabited urban settings. Each installation is derived from observational notes investigating the possibilities of micro architecture / installations in apparent 'void' urban surroundings.
The focus of each build relates to elements of construction, materials or skilled techniques expressed in commercial trades or an artistic environment. Each structure attempts, in varying degrees, to press relevant / irrelevant issues of present global notability, from political to ecological observations and the occasional structural folly of thought.

Environmental Design Category
A network of communications, making use of the vastly un-used rooftops of cities.
The urban canopy is an environment on a new level. Look at a map of any city and it becomes immediately apparent just how much un-used space there is on the rooftops of buildings. An existing playground of potential and excitement that remains hidden to us, just metres above our heads. The view, the tranquility, the thrill, the fresh air or perhaps just the feeling of looking down upon the city below. Forming a solution to express the rooftop philosophy culminates in this network of communication devices spread across a city skyline. This high-rise landscape of Leeds city centre draws attention to the potential greater use of existing buildings within an ever expanding population. The 'Urban Canopy' of communication can be applied to any city, anywhere in the world. As long as there are rooftops, there is a platform to stand on.

Visual Research Package
Journal of Pakistan Earthquake Region
Breezehill School, Oldham
An education project based on research determining how to respond in a humanitarian crisis. The Pakistan earthquake of 2005 prompted the question of how an individual could provide help in a crisis situation of this nature. The response was to produce a pack containing a visual journal of a research trip to Pakistan. This would provide a photographic window, for the UK, into such culturally differing societies. Experiences and observations were recorded in order to help further educate schools in the UK and to promote awareness of countries that suffer greatly from humanitarian crises, who do not have the resources to recover promptly. The general theory would be that education feeds unity and thus countless global disasters do not get forgotten simply as "yesterday's news".
